CNN: Injuries “A Silent Epidemic”

With so much emphasis on securing a college athletic scholarship, student-athletes are spending more time than even practicing and playing their sport of choice.

“The overuse could lead to serious injuries such as dislocated shoulders, torn anterior cruciate ligaments and ligaments usually seen more often in adults,” said Dr. Thomas DeBerardino, an associate professor of orthopaedics at the University of Connecticut Health Center in the article.

DeBeradino called injuries, which he sees rising rapidly in heads, necks and knees, a “silent epidemic” for young athletes.
